Joel Wapnick is the author of three books on how to play Scrabble, one memoir (My Lymphoma Year: a Memoir & Guide), and two novels. The View North From Liberal Cemetery, was shortlisted for the (2015) Quebec Writers' Federation Concordia University First Book Prize. A Montreal Gazette article concerning it can be found here. Wapnick taught at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music from 1978 to 2015. He is an expert Scrabble player, having won the World Championship (1999), the Canadian Championship twice (1998 and 2011), and the North American Championship (1983).
